Talking trail dogs, July 19

This Saturday, I will share some trail-tested wisdom from human-dog hiking duos during a presentation entitled Hiking with Dogs at the Washington Trails Association’s annual outdoor recreation festival, Trailsfest. Together with Craig Romano, author of Best Hikes with Dogs Inland Northwest, I’ll talk trail etiquette, dog gear, conditioning and other strategies for enjoying the great outdoors with a canine sidekick. Trailsfest is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rattlesnake Lake in North Bend, Wash. Hiking with Dogs begins at 2 p.m. in the Outdoor Classroom. I hope I’ll see you there, but keep in mind, folks are not encouraged to bring dogs to Trailsfest.

Book launch on Friday

Sniff out a signed copy of Dog Park Wisdom and mingle with pups and people during the Downtown Dog Lounge’s Spring Muttini Spectacular (429 E. Denny Way, Seattle), Friday, May 2, 7-10 p.m. Photographer Bev Sparks and I (Lisa Wogan) will be there to sip bevies, talk shop, and dog-watch along with several Dog Park Wisdom advice givers and models — maybe even Eddie, the cover boy!!

Arrive on time with your well-mannered sidekick, and he or she might be lucky enough to receive a five-minute dog-massage from Brenda Bryan. Brenda talks about the unlikely career twist of teaching yoga to dogs in Chapter 3. And, just so you don’t have to ask, I took my dog Lulu to Brenda’s Doga class, and, well, we had a challenging time centering ourselves.
