Doggles are great if you suffer from hay fever,as I do.You can barrle through the grass with impunity and not come out with red weepy eyes. They also look very dashing.

Leather leashes are wonderful. I have two - one is an expensive Ray Allen leather leash, the other came from the local thrift store. Out of the two, I use the thrift store leash more because it's wonderfully broken in and just feels comfortable in my hand. I think it's going to last many more years.

One thing that's important with leather, though, is that it should be conditioned with a quality leather conditioner every so often, because leather can deteriorate and become brittle if it is not cared for. (I work with a lot of WWII collectibles, and the leather on many old items is hard as a rock.) Bickmore's Bick4 is a great leather conditioner, and it's sold at most farm supply and tack shops. It's what I use on all my leather, including horse tack and my WWII items.

It's great word play. :) I'm disappointed people would use their dogs to show their political allegiances, though. As if dogs care about it one way or the other.

Thank you for highlighting Puppy Mill Awareness Day. As a veterinarian, I support your goal of driving these places out of business. Keep up the good work!

There are plenty of reasons why a dog may need to wear Doggles - riding in a motorcycle is one of them. They're also used for Search and Rescue dogs who may have to be inserted by helicopters and they have been donated in large numbers to military working dog teams in Iraq where they protect the dogs' eyes from the fine Middle Eastern sand. I know of one person using them for her German Shepherd who has Pannus.

Those are great tips. It seems like people kind of just assume the airlines will take care of their pets. There has to be a better way to get them water, though.

I want to add one other things that are very helpful for people who may be flying with their dogs or shipping them in cargo -

If you have any concerns about making sure the front door of the crate may come open, secure it using at least two bungee cords. This can also help keep well-meaning airport attendants from opening the crate to "pet the dog" and inadvertently letting the dog escape. This, unfortunately, is not as uncommon as one would hope.
